  1. Teeth Cleaning: The dentist or hygienist begins by cleaning the teeth to remove plaque and debris, ensuring maximum fluoride absorption.
  2. Drying the Teeth: The teeth are dried using air or cotton rolls to prevent dilution of the gel and enhance its effectiveness.
  3. Gel Application: A small amount of APF gel is placed in a disposable fluoride tray or directly applied using a brush, swab, or cotton applicator.

  1. Tray Placement (if used): If trays are used, they are inserted into the mouth, covering both the upper and lower teeth, and the patient is instructed to bite down gently.
  2. Gel Contact Time: The gel remains in contact with the teeth for approximately 1 to 4 minutes, allowing the fluoride to penetrate and strengthen the enamel.

  1. Excess Gel Removal: After the recommended time, the gel is removed by suction to minimize ingestion.
  2. Post-Application Instructions: The patient is advised not to eat, drink, or rinse for at least 30 minutes to allow the fluoride to fully absorb into the enamel.
